Trinity scored seven free position goals on Saturday!

In Hoboken, NJ this Saturday, the Bantams faced off against the Nationally ranked Ducks of Stevens Institute. Caite Irvine –back in action for 2012—scored the first goal of the season for Trinity off a free position shot. Trinity’s second and third goals also came from free position opportunities as Caroline Hayes, a first-year midfielder, converted to record her first career goal as a Bantam, and Madeleine Hardy, a veteran attacker, followed with a deceptive high to low tally. Congrats Caroline!
After only leading the Ducks 4-2 in the first half, the Bantams shed their first game nerves in the second half. Proudly bearing new “IGNITE” wristbands, a fired up Trin Lax squad blew apart the Ducks’ defense with four unanswered goals in less than six minutes. When Stevens received a yellow card five minutes into the second half, Trinity had its first chance to play the new man-up rule. After spreading the Ducks' defense out and moving the ball quickly, Trinity executed the man-up situation perfectly as Megan Leonhard fed a nice ball into Hadley Duncan for the finish.
Trinity was also successful off the draw this Saturday. Senior Captain, Liz Bruno had three draw controls, as well as four ground balls, two assists, and a goal. Taking most of the draws in first half, Meghan Leonhard contributed four draw controls, and converted a free position goal (see picture above) and an assist. Hadley Duncan had four goals, and Caite Irvine finished the game with three, and in net, Liv Whitney made five saves.
Most Memorable Moment: A game changing interception in the second half that started with Hadley Duncan’s efforts.
Going into the game we knew that Stevens had a very good transition in the midfield, so our attackers were crucial in slowing down the ball. Working incredibly hard, Hadley sprinted to catch up to the ball carrier and apply pressure. With Hadley on her back, the Stevens player was forced to make a bad pass, and Senior Captain, Liza Beckler was there to intercept the ball with her long reach and superior athleticism.
WAY TO GO BANTS!!
